Day 1QuitoGet a feel for Ecuadorean life on a stroll around Quito's quaint Old Town, with over 30 churches and many attractive buildings. One of the most attractive cities in South America, Quito sits at an altitude of 2,850 m and winds its way through a valley that eventually drops down to the Amazon Basin.
Days 2-4Jungle LodgeJourney into the dense jungle of the Amazon for an unforgettable stay in an eco lodge. Travel by canoe to Misahualli to visit a butterfly farm where you will learn all about the life cycle of some of the hundreds of colourful species that live in the rainforest. Receive a friendly welcome on a visit to an indigenous Quichua family and learn about their culture and traditions, such as pottery making. You may even get a lesson in the use of a serbatana, a blowpipe used for hunting, or be shown how to prepare chicha, a traditional drink made from a root plant called yuca. Spend time taking guided walks in primary and secondary forests. Your knowledgeable local guide will point out exotic plant species with medicinal properties, explaining what makes them special and how they were used in ancient times by inhabitants of the jungle. You'll also observe a massive variety of interesting insects, and be able to spot monkey groups up in the giant trees - stay quiet to admire these beautiful animals. Fall in love with the exotic jungle terrain while learning more about the people, plants and animals that call it home.
Days 5-6QuitoWe head back to Quito for a final night in Ecuador. Why not try some local foods to celebrate the end of your fascinating jungle journey?
