Mention code 6068420 | | Intrepid Travel | | | | Day | Destination | Description | | Days 1-2 | Mexico City | The centre of this heaving metropolis still moves with the beat of its Aztec heart. Hit the town Mexican-style for a night of mariachi music or escape the crowds on a day trip to the gardens of Xochimilco. | | Days 3-4 | Puebla | Start the day with a ride on one of Mexico's colourful buses. Soak up the colonial charm of Puebla, visit the market for handicrafts, try some mouth-watering mole poblano or head out for a hike to a nearby volcano. | | Days 5-6 | Oaxaca | See the grand colonial cathedral and Santa Domingo church in this lovely city. Just outside of town are the impressive Zapotec ruins of Monte Alban. | | Days 7-8 | San Cristobal de las Casas | Up in the mountains, the air is cooler, the terrain wilder and the jungle is scattered with ancient ruins. Take to the hills to explore, or enjoy a day trip to Sumidero Canyon. | | Days 9-10 | Palenque | These ruins are one of the most beautiful Mayan sites in Mexico. Climb the temples for views of the thick Chiapas jungle and the riotous wildlife that calls it home. | | Days 11-12 | Merida | Cruise the mansion-lined Paseo de Montejo, hang out in the Plaza Mayor or, in the evenings, grab a local to learn some dance moves. Merida is also an ideal base from which to visit the Uxmal Ruins. | | Days 13-15 | Playa Del Carmen | Stand in awe of the huge pyramids of Chichen Itza before following the scent of fresh sea air to the cool Caribbean. Snorkel and dive on reefs, cruise to nearby islands or just contemplate the palm-fringed beaches with a margarita in hand. |
