DayDestinationDescription
Days 1-2LehSet against the Himalayas and overlooking the crumbling Old Town and Polo Ground is Leh Palace, the main landmark in Leh. Take a guided walking tour of the town, visiting the palace, old quarter and Victory Peak.
Day 3LikerGaze at the bodhisattvas and celestial beings at Basgo Palace en route to Liker. Take a walk to Liker Monastery to see prayer rooms full of statues and and interesting museum contain religious objects made from human bones.
Day 4BikanerTrek through Sumdo Village and over the passes Phobe La (at 3,550 m) and Charatse La (at 3,650 m). Spend the night in a local friend's house on a homestay.
Days 5Yangthang to Hemis ShukpachanTrek through Sermanchan on the way to Hemis Shukpachan. The short walk will leave you with the rest of the day to explore the village.
Day 6Hemis Shukpachan to TemisgamStand atop Maptek Pass, at 3,750 m, and drink in the view of Ang village below. Visit a ruined fort and small monastery up on the hill at Temisgam.
Day 7Temisgam to LamayuruDrive to Lamayuru and discover its ancient legends among the bizarre moonscapes that dot the landscape. Visit 10th century Lamayury Gompa, perched atop a towering cliff.
Day 8Lamayuru to LehFounded in the 11th century by the Great Translator, Alchi Monastery is a testament to the Buddhist artists who created it. Marvel at the amazing murals and sculptures of Tantric deities, explore the temples and pop into the unusual chortens in the grounds.
Days 9-10LehSpend a full day sightseeing at Shey Palace, Thiksey, Hemis Monastery and Stok Palace Museum, stopping for lunch along the way. Seek out some traditional Ladakh food to celebrate an incredible journey.
