Mention code 6604412 | | Intrepid Travel | | | | Day | Destination | Description | | Day 1 | Leon | Peer between the layers of this ancient town before the pilgrimage begins. | | Day 2 | Villafranca del Bierzo | Enjoy this lovely town, complete with its own Roman temple and the Santiago cathedral. | | Day 3 | O Cebreiro | Conquer upland tracks and high trails and be rewarded with incredible views. The route travels up into the mountains - be prepared for some uphills - and the scenery grows ever more impressive near the overnight stop of O Cebreiro. The pre-Roman temple of Santa Maria la Real, which we pass along the way, houses a beautiful Byzantine image of the region's patron saint. Make a brief stop to admire it and take in the crisp mountain air. | | Day 4 | Triacastela | Another challenging day, with a trek along mountain trails between 800 and 1300 metres high. Enjoy the amazing scenery, passing through small villages to take a breather and replenish supplies before returning to the rolling green hills. The final stop today will be close to the medieval town of Triacastela. | | Day 5 | Sarria | Legs may be starting to feel a litle weary now, but the pretty medieval pitstop of Sarria makes it all worthwhile. Explore the charming 14th century castle in the Old Quarter of Sarria. | | Day 6 | Portomarin | Refresh and refuel at a charming cafe in Portomarin before checking out the romantic churches and castles. | | Day 7 | Palas de Ray | Walk through rolling countryside admiring the splendid scenery. | | Day 8 | Arzua | Continue the westward pilgrimage, walking through the lush green valleys of Galicia. | | Days 9-11 | Santiago de Compostela | A full day of walking brings us to the final destination, Santiago de Compostela. |
